Can you?Our hope is that this fanzine will be able to capture this era of theorizing, as well as celebrate how fun speculation can be!The zine will be rated T similarly to DELTARUNE as well as SFW (Safe for Work) with an allowance for canon-typical blood, violence, humor, and language.This zine will contain spoilers for DELTARUNE Chapters 1-5.

What is a zine?
A fanzine (zine for short) is a magazine created by fans to celebrate a character, ship, or form of media. Zines can come in both physical and digital formats and typically feature a variety of both art and writing.What is the theme of this zine?
“Who was December Holiday?” with an emphasis on unique, varied interpretations of Dess’s appearance, personality, and actions before and during the events of DELTARUNE. Contributors will be encouraged to explore the immense possibilities of her character through the framing of memories, flashbacks, nostalgia, and every foggy feeling in between.To put it in the simplest terms possible: we want to see YOUR version of December Holiday!Will this zine be physical or digital?

Yes, there will be spoilers for Chapters 1-5 of DELTARUNE.What kind of interpretations are you looking for?
To match the mystery behind Dess in the game, we would like the zine as a whole to feel like each contributor is remembering her a little differently, be it in her intentions or her literal appearance. For example, was Dess a ‘tough love’ kind of girl, or was she actually kind of a softie? Did she get along with her parents, or were they fighting every night? Did nothing ever scare her, or was she secretly scared of everything? How did she feel about her family and friends? How did they feel about her? If she’s the Knight, what’s going on in her head right now? If another Holiday is the Knight, what about Dess pushes them forward? There is no right answer until Toby gives it to us, so go ahead and answer it however you’d like!This zine is pretty deer-themed. Can I do something with a human Dess?
Yes, human interpretations are allowed. One question in the writer application assumes your Dess is a deer monster, but feel free to answer the questions accordingly (ie skin color instead of fur color).Are other characters allowed?
Yes, other characters are not only allowed but encouraged. How did Dess’ parents view her? Her little sister? The Dreemurrs? We would also like to extend past those two families and explore more unique viewpoints as well, such as Pizzapants, Bratty and Catty, or Gerson. If you believe Dess is the Knight, how might Susie or Ralsei feel about its actions or goals? If possible, we would like to have a variety of characters featured, so the more creative, the better!Will ships be allowed in this zine?
Romantic interpretations of certain relationships Dess may have had will be allowed, such as the canonically implied interest in Asriel or more speculative ones such as Bratty (alligators in bikinis, anyone?) Any romantic ships not involving Dess, however, will not be allowed!What is your AI/plagiarism policy?
As the purpose of this zine is to celebrate human ideas made by human hands, we have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to AI or plagiarism. Portfolios or examples that use AI will result in the immediate disqualification of your application. Zine pieces created with the use of AI, whether it be for inspiration or the actual piece itself, will not be featured in our project. If it is discovered that you used AI or plagiarised within your portfolio by tracing, heavily referencing without credit, or outright stealing the artwork of others without permission, you will be immediately banned from the zine with no chance of reacceptance.How old do I need to be in order to apply?
We ask that any applicants are at least 13 years old to comply with DELTARUNE’s T rating and Discord’s minimum age requirement.How many contributors are you accepting?
We are currently looking for at least 20 artists and 5 writers, though this is subject to change!Will this zine have guest contributors?
No, this zine will not have any guests!Will this zine be beginner-friendly?
Yes, as we aim to celebrate fandom speculation and creativity, this zine will be beginner-friendly. We highly encourage beginners and those without any zine experience to apply!Since this is a beginner-friendly zine, how will contributor applications be judged?
While we cannot accept everyone, unique Dess designs/interpretations and creative pitches will have just as much weight in your application as your portfolio! The application guidelines have more information on what we would like to see in art and writing portfolios.Can I apply for both artist and writer roles?
Yes, you are more than welcome to apply for both positions if you'd like! However, you will only be accepted for one role so as to make room for as many creators as possible.What are artists and writers allowed to create?
Artists will have the option to make single pages, spreads, and/or spot art for writers. Comics are allowed as well, but will only be approved if examples of past comic work are included in your portfolio to demonstrate your writing ability. For this project, pixel artists must make their work from scratch and will not be allowed to use official assets from DELTARUNE.For this zine, we will not be offering digital merch. This may change for the second zine!As long as the focus is on Dess’ character, writers will have the option to write prose or poetry. Examples of accepted prose are your usual fanfiction, an interview transcript, or a news article.I’m not an artist or writer but I’d still like to participate!
We have a third application form that is a ‘catch-all’ of sorts, intended for applications that are outside of artists and writers (ie cosplayers).Please keep in mind that applying under this form is not a guarantee that we will be able to accept the position; though we are a beginner-friendly zine, we believe all contributors deserve a confident, experienced mod team and we are not experienced in moderating work outside of the usual scope of art, merch, and writing. At the very least, we will consider these applications and suggestions when planning the second zine and find the necessary moderators if we determine they are able to be implemented!Will emails be sent out to all applicants?
Yes, we will be sending out both acceptance and rejection emails.If I’m accepted to this zine, can I still apply to the second zine in the future?

APPLICANT GUIDELINES
ARTIST GUIDELINES
All prospective artists will be asked to provide three pieces of art** that they feel best represent the work they’d like to contribute to the zine. DELTARUNE pieces are recommended but not required. Pieces will be judged on anatomy, shading, coloring, composition, and style through the lens of this being a beginner-friendly zine.**If you have less than three examples, you are still welcome to apply! We ask for three examples in order to gain a well-rounded idea of your work, but one example is better than none!Applicants will have the option to provide a portfolio where the mod team can view other works. Google Drive folders are highly preferred, though we will also accept links to an art account, Carrd, Tumblr tag, etc. We only ask that the page be easily accessible and be clearly organized.Artists will be asked to provide an example of their Dess design for reference; the quality of the art itself will not affect your application, so a quick colored sketch is perfectly acceptable.Please keep your application safe for work. As the mod team is comprised entirely of adults, you are allowed to have NSFW on your portfolio, so long as the three pieces you choose to highlight are not.Artists will be required to provide a minimum of three pitches in their application in order of preference. Thumbnails are not required; brief written descriptions are perfectly acceptable.
WRITER GUIDELINES
All prospective writers will be asked to provide three writing examples** between 1,000-2,500 words that they feel best represent the work they’d like to contribute to the zine. DELTARUNE pieces are recommended but not required. Pieces will be judged on grammar, sentence structure, characterization (if applicable), imagery, and their ability to tell a complete story within the word limits provided through the lens of this being a beginner-friendly zine.**If you have less than three examples, you are still welcome to apply! We ask for three examples in order to gain a well-rounded idea of your work, but one example is better than none!Writers will be allowed to present an excerpt from a longer fic that is within the word limit requirements, so long as the excerpt is understandable without the excluded context and can function as its own piece.Applicants will have the option to provide a portfolio where the mod team can view other works, such as an AO3 account.Writers will be asked to briefly describe their Dess’ physical appearance for reference.Please keep your application safe for work.
